Armed robbers - some dressed in drag - made off with 80 million euros ($100 million) in loot from a lightning-fast jewelry store robbery in central Paris, police said on Friday.
They'll be caught soon. There were too many people involved and when this is the case one of them usually does something stupid.
Just hard to believe in this day and age you could rip a place off for that much money with simple handguns. And they just got robbed a year ago? Did they improve security any? This is so crazy - especially when you consider how many undercover plain dressed cops are on the street in France! Then again in that neighborhood with over inflated store prices the real value was probably more like $5 million!
yeah, that simple handgun thing isn't so simple. Guns are BANNED in France. So how did these guys get them (probably Marseilles, where most of the immigrants come in from...) and what language were they speaking? I mean, come on! Even I could have told whether it was German, Italian, Spanish, or Arabic.
?
The robbers knew employee names, places and supposed inventories... It seems that when sales are dropping in a high end business - with too much one off inventory and diminishing liquidity, no one in good conscience would even offer a bailout, (suffer the super rich) its best to wink-wink and nod-nod in a darken room and get the money you need from the insurance companies... This smells like a "really inside" job with a purpose. But of course, the principals at Harry Winston are irreproachable , n'est ce pas?
Maybe they had a shopping list before the robbery. Also might be to fund some terrorist activity.
Certainly was not to buy the kids toys - unless they were the kids and wanted a Bugatti or some similar car.
I agree Dagg. Seems like security could be designed to deter such robberies both at jewelry stores and other establishments like banks. These sorts of robberies have obviously happened numerous times before. The fact that businessmen continue to allow them to happen suggests a desire on the businessmens part for them to continue.
I smell screenplay! *heads to Starbucks with laptop to start typing*
The article states "After the theft, the robbers fled. "
DUH! Thanx Mr Obvious. Find that journalism degree in your Captain Crunch box? Real news would be "After the theft the robbers hung around drinking coffee till the cops showed up"!!
Was it really necessary to include the line "after the theft, the robbers fled"? I think that could have been assumed.
yeah,as the church ladies would say"how conveeeeeenient"!!
Wat is funny is in France if you go to a bank you open a door and are in a hallway where you wait with a locked door in front of you. They let one customer in at a time, so you wait then they buzz you in and you do your transaction. Yet a GEM store lets everyone in with $100 million of stock sitting under the glass? Hard to believe.
